According to the InterNations Expat Insider 2016 survey report, Malta has ranked second out of 67 countries as the best destination in the world for expatriates. Expat Insider interviewed over 14,000 respondents representing 174 nationalities and 191 countries.
After ranking third in last year’s survey, Malta moved up a spot to claim second place in 2016, whereby Malta claimed a top ten spot for every index that factors into the overall ranking of the survey.
The survey covers a wide range of topics, including quality of life, personal finance, working abroad and settling in. It focuses mainly on the participants’ happiness and wellbeing relating to their choice of country of residence.
Malta has made quite a leap with respect to the personal finances sector, jumping from 42nd position in 2015, to rank 6th in 2016. Malta also holds 6th position in the quality of life index, with the climate and weather factoring in the exceptional ratings.
Malta has ranked high on the list, as despite the fact that one-third of working expats in Malta mention that their income is generally lower than back home, the general cost of living expenses, affordable housing and highly rated availability of leisure options is very favourable.
The newcomer, Taiwan, has topped the list of the best places to live abroad, dethroning Ecuador which ranked first in the last two surveys. Ecuador has placed third in the InterNations Expat Insider 2016 survey.
With such glowing results, it is perhaps no surprise that a considerable number of expats are relocating to Malta daily.
