Malta continues on its path to become the “blockchain island” after the University of Malta and Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) recently unveiled a €300,000 blockchain and distributed technology (DLT) scholarship fund for students of ICT, law, finance and engineering.
The aid being provided to students undertaking a Master’s or Doctorate research dissertation in the subject are of blockchain and DLT. As part of the country’s strategy, this education initiative will ensure that companies setting up in Malta will have access to a pool of high-quality graduate talent.
On a similar note, it was recently announced by Woolf University that plans are being laid out to set up the first blockchain university in Malta. The founder, Dr Joshue Broggi, has shown interest in Malta due to its educational framework based in the British Tradition and it being an EU and Commonwealth member.
It is likely that this will be the first university in the world to be all about blockchain and powered by the same technology. This will mean that it will be able to reach out to students across the globe and provide them with first class, personal tutors.
These announcements come only two months after the Maltese Parliament passed three bills that have put in place a regulatory framework for the use of blockchain technology. Such developments in the education sector serve to reinforce Malta’s position as a major blockchain nation.
