Towards the end of February 2018, Identity Malta officials accompanied Her Excellency The President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, during an official state visit in Croatia. Throughout their stay in Croatia, Identity Malta officials played a crucial role in the discussions held between Maltese and Croatian entrepreneurs along with the respective Chambers of Commerce.
As a matter of fact, Identity Malta had the opportunity to explain the procedure and the process Croatian nationals would need to go through should they decide to reside and work in Malta. It is worth highlighting that, despite the fact that Croatia ascended within the European Union in 2013, as to the date of the state visit, Croatian nationals had to still apply for an employment license with Jobsplus, which process was nevertheless different from the one provided to third country nationals.
This official state visit brought with it considerable and favorable changes. Indeed, following the said state visit, Croatian nationals are no longer required to apply for an employment licence in order to reside and work in Malta. Croatia has now been listed along with other EEA countries of which citizens are exempt to require authorization to work in Malta. Nevertheless, it is still highly suggested for Croatian nationals to still apply for an eResidence card.
