Yacht Registration Procedure

Step 1 - Initial Consultation

Our maritime industry consultants will provide expert advice on your yacht registration, tax structuring and Company set-up. We can also assist with yacht financing services and yacht brokerage through CSB Group’s esteemed business partners.

Step 2 - Submission of Documents

Following the purchase of your yacht we will liaise with your yacht broker, Transport Malta and yourself to draft and submit all the documents required for a successful obtainment of the certificate of registry under the Malta Flag.

Step 3 - Provisional Registration

Once the initial application is accepted by Transport Malta, a Provisional Certificate of Malta Registry will be issued against payment of the relative fee, which shall be valid for a period of six months (subject to further renewal).

Step 4 - Certificate of Malta Registry

We will liaise further with Transport Malta to smoothly provide the additional original documentation as required, within the six month timeframe. Once all requirements are fulfilled a permanent registration certificate will be issued.

VAT treatment of yachts in Malta depends on whether the yacht is used and enjoyed within or outside of EU waters and on the type of yacht registration. Notably, there are two main types of yacht registrations under Maltese Law; pleasure yacht and commercial yacht registration.
